A group of young people come together to take part in and try to win a dance contest, in spite of having no competitive experience, nowhere to rehearse, no costumes, nobody to teach them any moves, and with their parents constantly on their backs hassling them about their college work, tidying their bedrooms, helping around the house or with the family business, earning some money, etc., etc. To make things worse, there’s another group of young people who seem to have it all – experience, confidence, flash rehearsal space, make up artists and a full trophy cabinet. What chance do our group stand with just raw talent and enthusiasm?
A film made by Rochale Arts 4 Youth with Pride Media, with
fantastic support from our partners, notably Falinge Park High School, who allowed us to film the dance battle during a high octane evening at the school.
For three years Cartwheel have worked with this group of young people, who first came together as the steering group for the Bigger Picture, and stayed together as Rochdale Arts 4 Youth when that project ended.
Any similarity between the two rival dance troupes is figment of your imagination.
